Swanning Around - Issue 92, 30th November 2022.
Issue 92 of Swanning Around
Flying Scotsman left the railway in early November and Manston returned, first for light engine and then loaded test runs and then to take part in Steam and Lights. And then it went to Woodpecker to collect some wagons! The PWay team have been hard at work, putting up a signal repeater at Swanage, erecting fencing around the Sygnet van at Norden and restoring track near Ponderosa. With carriage cleaning, boiler works and a gardening award it is never a quiet time on the Swanage Railway.

The visti of Flying Scotsman takes much space in this latest edition - but not all as there is also news of the movement of 4 Bulleid locomotives on the Swanage Railway on 1 day, the return of Car 14 (the Devon Belle Pullman Observation car), a visit by founders of the Swanage Railway and news of two Maunsell coaches now being available for service - and a report of the dangers of disturbing a sleeping wasp!

Early Autumn and Swanning Around leads with the news of the return of Flying Scotsman at the end of October. Issue 88 of Swanning Around
A high summer edition of Swanning Around - August 2022 is 50 years since the Swanage Railway project began. In commemoration, trains ran with a special headboard and additional long-service badges, including some at 50 years, were presented by our patron, Lord Montagu. Also this month was yet another remembrance of the last steam train run by British Railways Southern Region on July 9th 1967, a visit from BBC South Today, the Royal Wessex, an uplifting ceremony at Herston Halt and progress on the T3. You can see we're not short of current content for this issue.

Running is now well under way and we are about the see the return of the Diesel Gala. Locomotives in and locomotives out is very much the order of the day. Essential PWay work at Harmans Cross, new catering facility at Corfe Castle, work in Herston Works with the M7 and 34070 Manston, the Volunteer Engagement event and much more in this bumper issue.

The new running year has now started and with it the threat of substantially increased costs amd decreased revenue. The railway has had to take some hard decisions and Swanning Around has the details. Information too about the new passenger information system, shunting moves (yes, including Beryl!), estates works, the recent (March) All-Grades MIC event, a notable retirement and improvements to the Corfe Museum.

Half term holiday week and the Swanage Railway is back at work with timetabled trains running - behind a visiting ex-GWR snall Prairie No.5526 on loan from the South Devon Railway. The latest Swanning Arund looks at the visitor, at estates maintenance work (Gentlemen - please adjust your dress before leaving!), covering the 4TC set with tarpaulins, a signals MIC, new office space in the Corfe Museum, work to replace Bridge 4 beams together with progress with 34070 Manston and more.
