Swanning Around - Issue 111, 14th July 2024.

Issue 111 Swanning Around

It has been a busy start to the summer! Strictly Bulleid II came to an end but locos were still at Swanage and only gradually made their way home. Then came Roads 2 Rail and a weekend of Dinosairs

Much more in this latest edition including the ill-fated 'Swanage Belle' charter that saw Black 5 44871 having to be left at Swanage until it could be rescued by a Class 47! The Purbeck Mining Museum hosted a visit by 226 cub scouts, leaders and volunteers from the Bournemouth and District Scout Association. It's all busy across the railway.

Issue 110 Swanning Around

Another bumper edition with action and details from the 'Gala of the Century so far' - Strictly Bulleid 2. A great credit to the railway and thanks are due to all who took part and worked so hard to organise.

More information too about the developing 4TC project, the unveiling of a blue plaque on Swanage station and details of our locos 'playing away' whilst the Bulleids were gathered at Swanage - and a look forward to Christmas (just 6 months away!) when we will be playing host once again to the Polar Express Train Ride.

Issue 109 Swanning Around

Another bumper edition of Swanning Around with much about recent events and operations on the Swanage Railway. Key amongst these was the recent and highly anticipated Swanage Diesel Gala. A great event with the most visitors yet for an event albeit not without incident.

Also featured is the SITREP summary, Swanage loco on tour, Swanage on the telly (yes! Big Steam Adventure, Ch.5 8.00pm, 17th May or later on catch up), work at Norden, a (French) school visit to the Purbeck Mining Museum, driver experience workings and anticipation building for Strictly Bulleid 2.

Issue 108 Swanning Around

The Swanage Railway is back in regular service with special events already taken place at the start of the regular running year.

March saw a Victorian Weekend with the railway welcoming visiting SECR O1 No. 65 from the Bluebell Railway to run alongside our own Adams T3 No. 563. A great weekend with staff and visitors dressed up for the occasion. Easter saw a very popular Easter Egg Hunt - photos of noth great occasions and much more in the new Swanning Around..

Swanning Around - Issue 106, 8th February 2024.

Issue 106 of Swanning Around

January for the Swanage Railway often means shutdown, with no trains. And so it is again this year, with track work at Swanage and engineering work at Norden to name just two reasons why trains cannot run. However, we will be restarting public services from 10th February for Half Term week, followed closely by special events on Community Weekend.

Shutdown is a time for maintenance, and many examples are featured in this issue, including the Purbeck Mining Museum reception building.

Swanning Around - Issue 104, 7th December 2023.

Issue 104 of Swanning Around

We wish our readers and Swanage Railway supporters a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. The Swanage Railway Christmas offering this year is The Polar Express and, as you might expect, there’s some of that in this issue. The main concern for the railway management is still the finances and there is more of this as well. With details of Sygnets and progression, a new Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Officer and movements in and out there is much to read.
