The Swanage Railway Company seeks to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to lead the railway through a period of change and to confirm the position of the railway as one of the premier heritage lines.
Swanage Railway is an award winning railway carrying over 200,000 passengers a year on its heritage services making it one of the leading tourist attractions in Dorset. The railway employs some 37 full time staff and has around 500 volunteers across its departments.
The Chief Executive will lead and manage all aspects of the day to day operation of the Swanage Railway, ensuring it is safe to operate and commercially successful. This job requires a natural leader who has commercial acumen and a can-do attitude, who takes responsibility for getting tasks done, and who can build and inspire a team of paid and volunteer staff to deliver the railways challenging objectives.
The successful applicant will be based at Swanage but will need to be able to travel to all of the heritage stations plus main line link locations and to engage with partners and stakeholders. Flexibility to work outside of normal working hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required

An informal day will be arranged for short-listed candidates to visit the railway, to meet with Directors and Senior Managers and to engage in discussion before interview.
